40 Ounce to Freedom – Artist Jim Mahfood
Jim Mahfood, Underground Art 2 Comments »

It’s 5am and Jim Mahfood and fellow artist Andy Brown stumble into my hotel room and pass out on the floor. We had been running with these guys all night watching them bomb a huge canvas at Writerz Blok, a renowned graffiti park in San Diego. Meanwhile the work was being captured by a film guy from Vimby.com and my undercover brother and graffiti art photographer, Rob Greenleaf (yea, that’s his real name!). It was a crazy night and these guys were producing some trippy shit, especially because the fumes from the spray cans were playing mind tricks on everyone. The list of artists was classic, including King Duce family like, Andy Howell, Chor Boogie, Evolve, Jim Mahfood, Andy Brown, and the legendary L.A. graffiti artist “Slick”.
I was immediately drawn to Jim Mahfood’s style of work and felt that it was a perfect fit for King Duce. In fact, he begins work on a piece for King Duce Records in July when he returns from his show in London. Jim and I got to know each other better after hanging out on his turf in Hollywood one night after we met at Writerz Blok. We hit a few familiar places downtown with some of his close friends and then cruised back to his place to trip out on his work, while old school hip hop was playing in the background, on vinyl. Jim’s a ridiculously talented artist and a straight up cool dude. That night he threw on a King Duce hat and I walked away with one of his signature series Colt 45 beer cans and a mix CD from his baby bro, DJ Mahf, and the rest is King Duce history. I can’t wait to see what he creates for King Duce! Coming soon…
